A hotel is only as good as its cleanliness. Besides the rooms, the lobby, corridors, restaurant, spa and offices need daily care – and thousands of towels and sheets need washing, drying and folding. That is why hotels across Germany are looking for cleaners and laundry workers. These jobs need no formal training – just reliability and care.
Cleaning public areas
- Lobby, entrance and lifts

- Restaurant and breakfast room after service
Public area staff often work at different times of day, including early mornings or evenings, so guests are disturbed as little as possible.
Working in the hotel laundry
- Sorting bed linen, towels, table linen and uniforms
- Operating industrial washing machines, dryers and ironers
- Folding, stacking and issuing linen to the floors
- Handling guest laundry
- Stock control of linen and supplies
Many hotels outsource most of their linen but keep an in-house laundry for guest laundry, uniforms and spa textiles.
Requirements
Thoroughness, punctuality, honesty and physical fitness are what count. German helps but is not always necessary, as international teams often work together. Correct handling of cleaning products is important; the employer provides training and safety instruction.
Working conditions
Positions are available full-time, part-time and as mini-jobs. At least the statutory minimum wage applies, and many hotels pay more. Some hotels provide accommodation for staff from abroad. Working hours are usually during the day and predictable, which makes cleaning jobs attractive for families.
Progression
If you prove yourself, you can move on to room attendant, public area team leader or laundry manager. Many of today’s executive housekeepers started this way.
