Hotels in Germany – from small family guesthouses to large city and holiday hotels – hire staff all year round. A hotel job in Germany can be a great start even without experience, and a long-term career for qualified staff.
Roles in a hotel
- Housekeeper / room attendant (Zimmermädchen, Roomboy) – cleaning rooms; possible without experience or with little German.
- Cleaner (Reinigungskraft) – public areas, restaurant, spa.
- Receptionist (Rezeption) – check-in, bookings, guest contact; needs good German and usually English.
- Breakfast and restaurant server.
- Cook and kitchen assistant in the hotel kitchen.
- Hotel or department manager – for experienced staff.
Which language you need
It depends on the role. In housekeeping and the kitchen you can start with basic German. At reception and in the restaurant, good German is almost always required and English is a big plus. A German course alongside work helps you move up quickly.
Hours and conditions
- Work is in shifts, including weekends and public holidays – many hotels pay extra for these.
- The statutory minimum wage is €13.90 gross per hour in 2026; many hotels pay under a collective agreement (Tarifvertrag), which can be higher.
- Holiday hotels (mountains, coast, lakes) often offer seasonal jobs, sometimes with staff accommodation.

- Prepare a short CV with a photo and your hotel or hospitality experience.
- State clearly which languages you speak and at what level.
- Ask early about hours, days off and accommodation.
