In holiday hotels and resorts guests expect more than a room – they want to feel welcome from the very first moment. That is the job of guest relations staff. They greet arrivals, know what regular guests like and are the first point of contact for anything that makes a holiday better. On the North Sea and Baltic coasts, at Lake Constance and in other German holiday regions they are in high demand.
Guest relations duties
- Personally welcoming new guests and showing them to their room
- Introducing the hotel, restaurant, spa and leisure activities
- Organising excursions, table bookings and special occasions
- Looking after VIP and regular guests
- Collecting feedback and fixing small problems before they grow
- Planning activities for families and children
What is expected?
Guest relations is a job for people who love working with people. Very good German and English are standard, and languages such as Dutch, Italian or French are a big plus in holiday regions. Empathy, a well-groomed appearance, organisational skills and staying friendly in stressful moments are just as important. Experience at reception, in service or in tourism helps.

Working hours
